NMIMS to produce Techno Managers for Agriculture Industry

Agriculture is the backbone of the Indian Economy.  About 60-70 % of the population lives in rural India. The growth of this sector is of prime importance to the GDP of the country. There is an urgent need to focus attention to this important sector. Technological advancements have lead to many changes in the world economy and globalization of economy has necessitated professionalization of this vital sector in Indian economy.

Agriculture sector is now transformed into a very competitive sector. This in turn calls professional management and use of modern technologies in all areas of the agriculture sector. NMIMS is initiating a 5 year dual degree program to seize this opportunity.

The Agri-business Management visualizes solution oriented and need-based techno-management education, training, research and policy related activity to give an impetus to the development of agro-based industries in particular and the rural development in general.

The MBA Agri Tech. program designed by NMIMS is a judicious mix of different sub-domains like water conservation & irrigation engineering, mechanized farming, crop and plant science, food processing and technology management. This program with an innovative blend of technology and management will result in technocrats with all round capabilities.

Moreover the program design, aims to make available relevant information and services to the farming community and private sector through the use of information and communication technologies and to supplement the existing delivery channels. The program aims to foster start-ups in different agricultural sectors and boost the agricultural economy in India.

Talking about the vision of the program, Dr. Sharad Mhaiskar, Dean, Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, NMIMS,  said this program will have a strong entrepreneurial bias towards the agricultural sector and will delineate students emerging out from this program to possess expertise in several key areas thus making them highly employable in a wide range of sectors like FMCG, Mechanical equipment manufacturing, IT with focus on banks in public, private and co-operative sector, food processing industry along with sectors using technology practices like supply chain management, rural marketing, agricultural business analytics, consultancy services to small and medium land holding farmers etc.

Offered at Shirpur Campus of NMIMS, the MBA Tech (Agriculture Technology) program aims to address the much needed problems and policy changes related to farm supplies, farm production, agro processing, agricultural marketing, agricultural finance etc. in the country

Tel Aviv Univ of Israel collaborates with NMIMS

 

Mumbai, 28 April, 2015|  Tel Aviv University (TAU) and NMIMS (Deemed-to-be University), Mumbai, India, have entered in to an MOU for academic collaboration at Tel Aviv, Israel in presence of Mr. Devendra Phadanavis, Chief Minister of Maharashtra and Mr. Girish Mahajan, Irrigation Minister, who were on their three-day visit to Israel to explore possibilities of collaboration in various fields including agriculture and crisis management, where it has an expertise, and to attract investments in the state.

This academic collaboration will be at different levels like joint UG and Graduate, programs, student and faculty exchanges, collaborative research etc. With forging of such collaboration between TAU, a highly ranked university at global level and NMIMS a leading private university in India, the education sector, both in India and Israel will be immensely benefitted.

 

The MoU was signed by Prof. Rannan Rein, Vice-President TAU and Prof. Sharad Mhaiskar, Dean, Mukesh Patel School of Technology Management & Engineering, NMIMS in presence of President of TAU Prof. Klafter.

 

Prof. Klafter mentioned in his reception to the CM that with the signing of the MoU with NMIMS a new chapter in the history of internal relations of TAU has begun.  Consul General David Akov also mentioned that his efforts of facilitating Collaboration between academic institutions of India and Israel are bearing fruits with the signing of the MoU between TAU and NMIMS.

 

According to Prof. Sharad Mhaiskar this was indeed a momentous occasion for NMIMS and marks the beginning of a new phase for Indo-Israel academic collaboration.  He also indicated that the two universities were keen to collaborate in various areas like Cyber security, Food Security and Safety and Business and Innovation.

 

Hon’ble CM Devendra Phadanvis expressed pleasure of being witness to the signing.
